Very fine antique Japanese, Meiji period, gilt and lacquered box; the cover brilliantly decorated with paulownia flowers, swirling waters, bamboo, ivy and larger shishi with young playing amidst grass and rockery beneath flowing water; the interior gold flecked nisiji with four character signature of lacquer artist; the base bordered with fully gilt repeating vines and tendrils; each side with central twin banana leaf mon; the interior and base gold flecked nisiji; cover slightly warped; L 11" x H 4 1/2" (Approx.)
