Diplomystus dentatus Eocene Green River Formation, Lincoln Co., Wyoming Diplomystus is an extinct member of the herring family, but was one of the most ferocious predators in the waters of the Green River Formation's 50 million year old subtropical lake system. This is a superb example of why the locale's fossils are so highly prized, with magnificent detail and three-dimensionality throughout, of excellent size at 17 1/2 inches long, the rich dark brown coloring contrasting dramatically with the creamy limestone matrix, framed and ready to hang, 21 1/2 x 27 5/8 inches overall.
