LARGE MEGALODON TOOTH
Carcharocles megalodon
Miocene
St. Mary's River, Georgia
Similar to today's modern great white shark (although unrelated), Megalodon was the undisputed apex predator of the Miocene oceans, growing up to the length of a Greyhound bus. Having a cartilaginous skeleton, all that remains to us of this monster are its teeth. This fearsome specimen retains good enamel coverage and serrations, with a lovely warm yellow-brown patina and woody-colored root, of excellent size, 6 1/4 inches long on a custom display stand.
