NATURAL AMMONITE/ORTHOCERAS COMBINATION
Agonieties sp., Orthoceras sp.
Devonian
Morocco
This pair of 350 million year old fossils comes from the abundant deposits of Saharan Morocco. Instead of being highly polished, however, as most specimens from this region are prepared and presented, these two have been subjected to acid washing. This gives a finish that is not nearly as shiny as the polishing and lends them a truly naturalistic aspect, in this instance in subtle monochrome shades of black, white and gray. On both pieces, the jagged suture lines of their shells' growth structure is clearly and strikingly visible, and they sit nestled together on the original matrix, the ammonite measuring 10 inches wide and the orthoceras cone measuring a large 14 1/2 inches long.
