RARE FEATHER IN AMBER
Cretaceous
Hukawng Valley, Myanmar
Myanmar (Burma) is one of the few locations in the world, along with Canada, to have amber old enough possibly to contain dinosaur material. The distinction between birds and dinosaurs is blurred at this stage, but this feather could well have belonged to one of the latter - it is not a flight feather, but one from the body or arm of its original owner. Remarkably, it also contains traces of the original dark coloring, usually entirely bleached out in these specimens, in a 1 1/4 inch long cabochon.
