LAPIS LAZULI FREEFORM
Afghanistan
Lapis lazuli has been prized since ancient times - beads have been found at Neolithic sites in the Caucasus; it was favored by the Egyptians for making amulets and scarabs and considered sacred to the goddess Isis; and Cleopatra even used ground lapis for eye-shadow. This fine little freeform displays the gorgeous rich blue color and dramatic strata of pale golden pyrite, standing 6 1/4 inches high.
