COMPLETE BISECTED METEORITE
Muonionalusta - iron, fine (IVA) octahedrite
Kiruna, Norrbotten, Northern Sweden
As well as being the oldest known meteorite on Earth (approximately 1 million years old), the Muonionalusta material is also renowned for its attractive Widmanstätten patterns, perfectly displayed here in a specimen cut in half, with a full outer coating of rust-flecked fusion crust, and the inner faces acid etched to display the intersecting lamellae of kamacite and taenite, each half approximately 4 3/4 inches wide and weighing a combined total of approximately 3760 grams.
