SUBPERB CANADIAN IRIDESCENT AMMONITE
Placenticeras costatum
Cretaceous
Bearpaw Formation, Southern Alberta, Canada
Precious gemstone ammolite is amongst the most sought-after of all materials in the world of fossil collecting, a rare biogenic gemstone found only in a small portion of southern Alberta. The unique geological history of the area has preserved the ammonite shell's mother-of-pearl lining in an incredible array of iridescent shades; this is an wonderfully colorful example, flashing in mostly vivid electric green to one side and the other with more red-orange; the rainbow of colors even showing some slight touches of the more rare blues and purples.; L: 15 1/4" (approx.); wood stand; with Canada Fossils certificate
