An elaborately pierced close helm in the style of 16th century Italy, the skull of two-piece construction with heavily roped comb, breaths at either side, pierced and carved floral plum holder, and features a rear lame of elaborate carving and brass floral rivets. The visor is well carved to match rear and forward lames with multiple breaths to either side and high viability ocularium. The lower visor or ventail is carved in a matching fashion to the other components and features multiple breathes. Bevor features a raised ventail support and locking spring for ventail. Forward lame is carved to match remainder of helm and features replaced floral rivets throughout with lightly roped rim; some wear, some surface scratches and rusting; H 12 1/4" x L 13" x W 8 1/4" (approx.)
