Pair Yoruba hand carved drums beautifully detailed, both with very intricate designs throughout. The taller of the two drums depicts three faces, as well as one female figure holding something above her head. The smaller drum also with three faces depicted and one female figure, this time with her arms just at her sides; both in overall good condition with no loss to the drum skin, minor wear and losses to base; the larger H 15 3/4" x D 7 1/4" (approx.)
Provenance: Dr. Peter T. Furst (1922-2015) collection thence by decent. Dr. Peter T. Furst was an anthropologist, author (150+ books) and teacher as well as the Foreign Fellow of the Linnean Society of London. Dr. Furst curated many exhibitions throughout the years.
