Early 19th Century Chokwe Tribe Chief's Chair / Throne, with copper detail, and hand carved figures throughout. Beautifully detailed hand carvings along the base, legs, arms and backrest of the throne, with copper details throughout the arms and seat. Overall in good condition with wear commensurate with age, minor losses to edges. H 40 1/2" x W 25 3/4" x D 21 1/2" (approx.)
Provenance: Dr. Peter T. Furst (1922-2015) collection thence by decent. Dr. Peter T. Furst was an anthropologist, author (150+ books) and teacher as well as the Foreign Fellow of the Linnean Society of London. Dr. Furst curated many exhibitions throughout the years.
