Esquel - stony-iron pallasite (PMG)
Chubut Province, Argentina
Discovered in 1951 by a farmer in Chubut, Argentina, portions of the single 1500 kilogram mass known as Esquel are amongst the most sought-after of this rare class of meteorite, the pallasites. A little silvery nickel-iron matrix is visible, but most of this fine little slice bursts with lovely golden olivine crystals, 2 3/4 inches wide overall and weighing approximately 45.8 grams.
