Large antique, probably late Meiji period, Japanese carved wood figure of the guardian Nio, the bare chested figure with elaborately carved exposed muscles and torso, one arm raised holding implement, the other arm at waist, with flowing waist high robes traveling up above his head, hair in elaborate top knot, each foot drilled for mounting on stand, no stand accompanied; minor wear, flaws and losses consistent with age;
