AESTHETIC IRON METEORITE
Gibeon - Iron, fine octahedrite
Great Nama Land, Namibia
The famed Gibeon meteorite crashed into the Earth's atmosphere thousands of years ago, a gigantic extraterrestrial mass that exploded into thousands of fragments across a large area of the Kalahari Desert. First discovered in modern times in 1836 by English Captain J.E. Alexander, it had been used locally for weapons and decorations for centuries. Of unusual, flattened curving form, this is a fine collector's specimen, with full fusion crust generously rust-flecked, and well-defined regmaglypts and ridges, measuring 5 1/2 inches wide and weighing approximately 1519 grams.
